19 February 2016 - New Zealand pathway to Australian Citizenship streamlined
The new visa pathway will be available from 1 July 2017 for Special Category Visa holders who are ordinarily resident in Australia today and, at the time of application, have lived here for at least five years. These new arrangements will give many New Zealanders permanent residence status and enable them to apply for Australian citizenship if they meet certain criteria, including: contributing to Australia, demonstrated through income tax returns which show assessable income at least equivalent to the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT) for the qualifying period; and passing mandatory health, character and security checks.

A consultation process for a new Entrepreneur visa will start today, seeking feedback on the proposed settings for the visa.The Entrepreneur visa will be introduced in November 2016.The Department of Immigration and Border Protection is seeking feedback on the proposed policy settings for the new visa – further information can be found on the Department’s website at: http://www.border.gov.au/about/reports-publications/discussion-papers-submissions

22 December 2015 - Man jailed for migration fraud in WA
Paul Gregory Harrison was sentenced today in the Perth Magistrates Court to four years imprisonment in relation to 26 criminal fraud and stealing charges and three years imprisonment for 19 charges under the Migration Act related to unregistered migration advice, providing false or forged documents and misleading information to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP).

25 November 2015 - Paying for visa sponsorship outlawed
The Migration Amendment (Charging for a Migration Outcome) Bill outlaws conduct involving asking for, receiving, offering or providing payment or other benefits in return for visa sponsorship. The Minister for Immigration and Border Protection Peter Dutton said the new legislation will protect both the integrity of the Australian migration programme and potentially vulnerable overseas workers.
19 November 2015 - Australia to enhance visa arrangements for Indonesian visitors
The Australian Government will introduce an option of a three-year, multiple-entry visa for Indonesian visitors to Australia next year – an extension of the current one-year visa.The Government will also expand online visa lodgement to all Indonesian citizens by 2017, making the process of applying for an Australian visa simpler for Indonesian tourists and business people.
Working Holiday Maker (WHM) visa holders who secure work in certain high demand industries in northern Australia will be able to remain with their employer for up to 12 months from November 21.Under the change, both Working Holiday (Subclass 417) and Work and Holiday (Subclass 462) visa holders who undertake work in northern Australia will be able to apply to work for a single employer for up to 12 months, compared to the usual limit of six months.
